Binji ("Binji," "we," "us") is a TV show tracking product available at binjiapp.com and as an iOS app. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

1. Information we collect

Account information. When you create an account we collect your email address and password (password is stored hashed by our auth provider, not in plain text). You may also set a username and optional avatar.

Watch activity. To power the product we store shows you add to your library, watch status (for example Watching or Want to watch), episodes you mark watched, episode ratings you save, and notification preferences for episode alerts.

Push notification tokens. If you enable episode alerts we store a device or browser push token so we can send those alerts.

Import data. If you use TV Time import on the website, we process the watch-history export you upload solely to create or update your Binji library. We ask for the privacy/export CSV, not unrelated archive contents.

Advertising identifiers (iOS). The iOS app shows ads via Google AdMob. On iOS we may request App Tracking Transparency permission. If you allow tracking, AdMob may use a device advertising identifier and advertising data to personalize ads and measure performance. If you decline, you still see ads, but they are less personalized.

Product events (first-party). When you are signed in we may store lightweight activation and error events in our database (for example app open, signup, add show, mark watched, client errors) so we can see whether beta users get stuck and fix crashes. This is not a third-party analytics SDK.

Usage needed to run the service. Our infrastructure providers automatically process technical logs to keep the service secure and reliable. Supabase (our authentication, database, and edge function provider) logs IP addresses, request timestamps, and error diagnostics. Vercel (our website host) logs similar request data. Expo processes device identifiers and delivery diagnostics when sending push notifications. We do not use these logs for advertising or profiling.

2. How we use information

  • Provide, sync, and improve Binji (library, Up Next, calendar, search, profile stats)
  • Authenticate your account and prevent abuse
  • Send episode airing alerts you opt into
  • Understand activation and fix crashes using first-party product events stored in our Supabase project (e.g. signed-in app open, signup, add show, mark watched, client errors) — not a third-party analytics SDK, and not used to build ad profiles
  • Show ads that help keep Binji free (iOS AdMob; website AdSense when configured)
  • Respond to support requests and comply with law

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your watch history to build third-party advertising profiles outside the ad networks described here.

3. Third parties we use

  • Supabase — authentication, database, and edge functions that store and process account and watch data on our behalf
  • Vercel — hosting for the Binji website
  • The Movie Database (TMDB) — show metadata, images, and schedules. Binji uses the TMDB API; Binji is not endorsed or certified by TMDB. See TMDB's privacy policy
  • Google AdMob / AdSense — advertising and related measurement on supported surfaces
  • Expo / Apple push infrastructure — delivery of optional episode alerts on iOS

4. Public profile information

Usernames and avatar URLs may be readable as public profile fields. Your email, password, watch history, and library are not intended to be public.

5. Retention and deletion

We keep account and watch data while your account is active.

Deleting your account. You can delete your account two ways:

  • In the iOS app — Profile screen → Delete Account. This permanently removes your Binji account data from our database, including your library, watch history, ratings, and notification preferences.
  • By email — write to hello@binjiapp.com from the address on your account and we will delete it. We respond to deletion requests within 30 days.

If you created your account on the website, either method works — deletion removes your account entirely, not just one surface.

Backups and logs. After deletion, your data may persist in encrypted database backups for up to 30 days before those backups expire. Technical logs (IP addresses, request timestamps, error diagnostics) are retained for up to 90 days for security and operational purposes, then deleted automatically.

6. Your choices and rights

You can:

  • Update your username in Profile
  • Turn episode alerts on or off per show, or revoke notification permission in your system settings
  • Decline App Tracking Transparency on iOS
  • Delete your account in the iOS app or by email (see Section 5)

Access, correction, and deletion. You have the right to request a copy of the personal information we hold about you, to correct information that is inaccurate, and to have your information deleted. To make any of these requests, email hello@binjiapp.com from your account address. We respond within 30 days.

California residents. If you are a California resident, the CCPA/CPRA gives you the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use it (described in Sections 1 and 2), the right to request deletion, the right to correct inaccurate information, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined under California law, and we have not done so in the preceding twelve months.

Users in the EU, UK, and other regions with data protection laws. You may have additional rights, including the right to data portability, the right to object to or restrict certain processing, and the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. Our legal basis for processing account and watch data is performance of our contract with you; for advertising and optional alerts, it is your consent, which you may withdraw at any time.

We do not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.

7. Children

Binji is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information, email hello@binjiapp.com and we will delete it.

8. International users

We process information in the United States, and our providers may process it in other countries where they operate. If you use Binji from outside the United States, you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States and other locations, which may have different data protection laws than your country.

9. Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of Binji after an update means you accept the revised policy.
